An easy way to fix most issues with a device is to just reset it. It’s a universal solution that often works, and I’ve found myself using it often with a lot of my devices.
Surely you’ve done the same sometimes, like resetting the router when it’s acting up.
The same goes for the Echo Dot, which can run into some technical issues that are more than easy to fix with a quick reset.
For example, you might want to reset your echo dot if it keep automatically turned off after an hour
But, the process is a little different for doing this when you’re trying to do it without using the Amazon Alexa app.

How To Reset Echo Dot Without App?
Resetting the Echo Dot is a really simple thing when you’re using the Amazon Alexa app.
But, things get slightly trickier when you’re trying to do it without using the application and don’t know what to do.
Still, it’s not impossible and just requires a bit of patience. I’ll walk you through the things you need to do to achieve this. Just do what I’ve said below and you’ll go through it easily!
- Knowing Your Buttons
There are 4 buttons on the Echo Dot, all of which have different functions that are easy to understand.
- Mute Button – Top
- Plus Button – Left
- Minus Button – Right
- Action Button – Bottom
If you don’t know what these functions are, it’s pretty simple. The button on top is the mute button, just like image below, which is pretty self-explanatory.
Then you have the plus and minus buttons that are for increasing and decreasing the volume respectively.
The action button, which is the one on the bottom, is the most important button for this guide.
- Press and Hold the Action Button
Press the action button on your Echo Dot and keep holding it for 20-30 seconds at least.
The device will let you know that it has entered setup mode after this.
It’ll also tell you to follow the instructions on your Amazon Alexa app, but we’re going to reset it without using the application so ignore that request.
Simply keep holding the button down until the Echo Dot tells you that it is entering reset mode.
- Release the Button and Setup Echo Dot
Once it enters reset mode, the Echo Dot will take a few moments before it finally resets.
It’ll give you confirmation in a few different languages once this happens and the colors on the device will flash repeatedly like image below.
The echo dot is now entering the factory reset mode! Not that difficult right?
These simple steps are all you have to do to reset your Echo Dot and start it fresh.
The Bottom Line
For me, it is easier to reset the Echo Dot using the manual method above instead of the reset it through the Amazon app.
If you have followed the steps I listed above, all of the data from the device will be removed.
