The problem is that your Electrolux UltimateCare 500 washer suddeny stops mid-cycle. It’s stuck in the spin mode. You can hear it spinning the drum in high-speed motion; it doesn’t slow down. It won’t let up, even after waiting for the cycle to complete on its own. This is frustrating because you want your clothes!
The digital display indicates there’s an hour and four minutes left. It doesn’t make any sense; the load are already half-way through. I hit buttons but nothing happens. The control panel doesn’t respond.
How to Reset the Machine
The display simply continues counting down, the speed indicator says it’s running at 1200 RPM and it’s locked into that high position.
It’s a 9/8KG combi with an ECOINVERTER system on it. Typicaly this is one good machine. However, when this glitch happen, nothing goes right.
The lock mechanism holds fast and you cannot open the door. If you force it open, you risk breaking off the latch.
The best thing is power cycling.
Turn off electricity to unit by pressing its power button. It will shut down and drum will stop turning. You’ll notice the hum stops, too. The humming noise stops immediately which helps you hear silence.
Let the electronics reboot for a few seconds. Press the button once more. Electricity returns and screen displays its default menu.
It would of been nice to not have to do this all over again but there’s no choice. You pick another cycle by hand, and just like always, the drum fill with water. It goes through wash and rinse just fine.
It makes it to the very end where it spins everything dry (as it should). Then it ends the cycle. You pop open the door and take out your still-wet laundry.
What I suspect happened is that control board lost track of what stage it was in during the cycle. That’s fairly common and a quick cut to the power removes the temporarilly stored information and makes system check its position.
Don’t panic. Don’t attempt to force open the door. Just cut power, wait and restart. The washer will work fine following this hard reset.
