One thing you’ll run into with a Gree air conditioner is that it won’t stop running if there’s an on-schedule timer set. When you push the normal power button from the remote, nothing happens and the air conditioner will keep running until the time pass. This means you must reset this option in order to turn the aircon off.
You press both the T-ON and T-OFF keys at the same time.
Alternative Reset Method
It has a button combo that will override the timer and not force you to go back into the main physical controls on the unit.
First find your timer buttons located on the remote control. Typically they are the keys closest to the bottom of the keypad that say T-ON and T-OFF. The timer controls is a different set than the ones used to adjust temperature.
Point the remote directly at the air conditioner unit so it picks up the infrared signal. Don’t make the angle too wide or else it won’t recieve the signal. Then you simply press both the T-ON and T-OFF keys simultaneously.
To use this button, hold it in for several seconds while it registers your command. Keep aiming the remote at the unit and wait; the remote’s screen won’t necessarily update instant.
You’ll need to make sure to depress both buttons. One is not enough, you could end up setting a new timer rather than erasing the current one.
Cancel your existing plan with the combo.
Look at the remote’s display and locate the “ONOFF” label. If it turns off then the timer has been deactivated successfuly. When this label turns off, you know the command work.
The timer is no longer blocking your ability to turn off the air conditioner. Because the override has taken effect, the power button can works as normal.
Sometimes, the “ONOFF” label won’t appear on the display, but the timer might still remain engaged in the background. If the button combo doesn’t do anything, here’s another way to try:
Power cycling involves turning the unit off with the On/Off button, then immediately powering it back on. This will cause both the unit and remote to reset there internal settings. The hidden timer configurations is cleared. This resets the system directly.
After sending the reset command, the air conditioner turns off and then turns itself right back on. When the air conditioner is rebooting you will see the temperature display on its screen.
At this point, go ahead and use your remote to verify there are no more scheduled event. Once again, you’re in complete control of the air conditioner’s on/off status, without having to locate some hidden physical button on the air conditioner indoors, or worse yet, unplug it.
This is an issue that affects many of us. Why? Most folks simply hit the off button over and over thinking it would of clear the timer. Nope!
The only way to get your remote to resume normal operation is by clearing out the timer. Hit the button for the timer one more time to erase the timer setting. After that, the remote will function as usual.
