When your LG washer displays the SUD alert, don’t panic; it just means there’s too much suds in the drum. The extra foam prevent the cycle from finishing properly.
Most times this occurs because you added too much detergent or fabric softener to the load. There’s no need to worry over a complicated repair. The error message doesn’t mean something broke with the plumbing. Instead, it’s an easy mistake to make (and simple to resolve).
Steps to Clear the Error
The fix is easy: simply run your machine on the drain-only setting until the suds are gone, no need for technical help or even to open up the washing machine. It sounds strange, but this will flush out all of the soapy water and get rid of the suds.
If you were to do a regular load of laundry (a full wash), it would just make it worse because the washer will fill again with water.
To use this feature, simply pause your in-progress load by pressing Cancel, then hit the Spin button and choose “No” when asked about spin speed. This option are essential to enable the drain only mode. Next, hit start and the washer will begin draining the drum.
It’ll also forget all other wash settings, including temperature. The display will change to match the newly selected cycle.
As it forces the sudsy water through the washer, you’ll see suds travel down the drain and hear a bit of a hum coming from the washer. There is no rinse, spin, or agitation. It’s all about removing.
Depending on how much soap is left in the washer, it could take a few drain cycles to get rid of any suds. Once the washer drum are free of extra suds, the display should of without the SUD error.
To avoid this mistake, always measure your detergent each time you use the washing machine. Always follow the MAX line on the detergent drawer, going beyond that results in foaming issues. Follow the same rules for fabric softener.
Using the right amount of detergent will also ensure best performance of the machine. It’s just a matter of checking the detergent drawer (which takes just a few seconds) to ensure the soap level is correct.

You can easily see where to put your detergent, whether it is liquid or powder. The detergent drawer has its own marked area and a clear MAX line for liquid detergents. Before loading it up, always open up that drawer and make sure you have the correct amount of detergent.
If there’s too much, then it doesn’t really matter what else you set, steam or no steam, delay or no delay. Get the detergent part down first and the rest will go smoothly.
